How to make a copy of my digital certificate?
About Internet Explorer follow the procedure:
- From Tools menu choose Internet Option and open Content tab. If you don't see Tools menu, press ALT key from the keyboard to turn on Menu bar under the address bar.
- Click on Certificates button, choose your certificate from the list and click on Export and Next.
- On the next screen mark option Yes, export the private key and choose Next. If the option is inactive, you already have made copy of your client certificate, which can search as a file with extension .PFX (for example My_cert_copy.PFX).
- Enable options:
- Include all certificates in the certification path if possible;
- Export all extended properties;
- Enable strong protection - about Windows XP and click Next.
- Enter password and click Next. This is a transport password and protects copy. Without it, the copy cannot be opened on behalf of you, but will be required from you in case of restoring the certificate from the copy! Always use a transport password for your certificate copy and remember it!
- Click on the Browse… button to select the device, on which will be saved the copy of certificate (it is recommended to be USB flash memory - for example drive G:), and enter the file a name, which should contain the copy of the certificate (in field 'File name'). Confirm with the Save button and continue with Next.
- Choose Finish. You will receive a message The export was successful - confirm with OK.
- Check on the chosen device whether the newly saved file has extension .PFX (for example My_cert_copy.PFX). If there’s some failure, repeat the procedure for certificate export by following carefully the specified instructions.
